DX Skydio 2 - USED

The Skydio 2 is a high-end drone designed by the American brand Skydio. The model is a technological beast with breathtaking performance, especially in terms of obstacle detection, its avoidance capacity and its autonomous flight.

With its 6 onboard navigation cameras, covering the environment at 360°, it will be difficult to crash it in flight.

More broadly, it has a stabilized camera for filming in 4K at 60 fps, a battery life of 23 minutes, a maximum speed of 58km/h and a range of 3.5 kilometers by controlling it with its radio control for a weight of 775 grams.

The drone measures 223 x 273 x 74 mm but is not foldable. However, it comes with 1 custom-made hard case, 2 additional propellers, 1 battery, 1 wall adapter for charging and 1 USB type C cable for charging and data transfer

SKYDIO 2 CAMERA

■ The skydio 2 uses a 1/2.3-inch Sony IMX577 CMOS sensor with an effective pixel count of 12.3 megapixels. Placed on a 3-axis gimbal, the camera is stabilized in flight. You can choose several resolutions for videos up to 4K in 60 fps (frames per second) in HDR.

■ The camera has a fixed aperture of f/2.8, a focal length of 20mm (equivalent to 35mm format) with an electronic shutter of 1/1920s. It is possible to adjust the ISO sensitivity of the sensor from 100-3200 for video and photo.

■ To summarize, we have a shake-free camera, capable of taking images of exceptional quality with very good color management. Images are saved to an SD card, either in JPEG or DNG format (RAW equivalent, perfect for image editing).

THE REMOTE CONTROL

■ You can fly the Skydio 2 at very short range with only your phone and the drone application. But it's still a Wi-Fi connection, so it's not very stable and controlling it via a touchscreen smartphone is not optimal. Otherwise there is the “Skydio Controller” which is the real remote control which strangely resembles that of the Parrot Anafi . But be careful, the remote control is optional and not part of the initial price.

■ It will cost around €150 more to take advantage of this radio control. Quite massive and a bit "cheap" plastic, the control stick is offset from the drone itself which has a black and blue magnesium alloy. It still remains functional, to have a range of 3.5 kilometers and FPV feedback (you place your phone on the support above).

■ There is a third possibility for controlling the SKydio 2, the "Skydio Beacon", this small rounded rectangle also serves as a remote control which is also an option at the same price. Paired with your smartphone, it allows the drone to be autonomous and follow you over a maximum distance of 1.5 km. The small buttons on it are used to reposition the drone, lock a precise angle or the ability to control it with one hand.


AUTONOMY & SPEED

● Concerning autonomy, we place a 4280 mAh lithium-ion polymer battery weighing 280 grams, which brings us to a total weight of the drone of 775 grams.

● Maximum battery life is 23 minutes, which is low compared to its competitors. In terms of speed, it will be able to follow you at a maximum speed of 58 km/h.
